Help: Search Results

The results of your search are displayed on the Search Results page which lists the records in Monthly Catalog which match your search. A summary of what you searched for is included at the top of the page, along with the number of results which have been retrieved and a reminder of the order in which your results are sorted.

What information is shown in each result?

Each Monthly Catalog entry record displays the following information (where available):

Each record for front/back matter and indexes displays the following information (where available):

Both types of record include a Durable URL link - clicking this will open a panel displaying the durable URL for the record. You can copy and paste this for use in your documents and email.

How do I access the Full Record for an item?

There is a Full Record available for every document. This can be accessed by following the title link in the result citation.

How can I modify my search?

How can I save my search terms to My Archive?

You can save your search terms to My Archive for future reference.

Tip: the default name for a saved search is 'My Search', if you are saving multiple searches it is a good idea to give them names which are easily recognizable.

If you do not have a My Archive account, or would like more information, go to the My Archive Help Page.

How can I change the order in which my results are sorted?

The order in which your results are displayed will depend on the options you chose on the Search page. If you did not choose an option, the default order is by most recent record first. Search results can be sorted in one of five ways:

To re-sort your results:

The results page will be refreshed with the results citations displayed in your chosen order.

How can I change the number of results per page?

You can choose whether to display 20 or 50 results on the Search Results page using the Display link. The number of results displayed depends on which option you chose on the Search Articles page.

The Search results page will change to reflect the option you have chosen.

By default 20 results will display per page.

Note: changing the number of results displayed will take you back to the beginning of the results list.

How can I add items to the Marked List?

Monthly Catalog entry items in the Search Results will include a checkbox to enable you to add it to the Marked List.
Note: You cannot add Index items to the Marked List.

To add all Monthly Catalog entry items on the page to the Marked List, check the Mark/Clear all Monthly Catalog entries on this page checkbox at the top of the results list. A progress indicator will count down the number of results as they are added to the Marked List and the final total will be shown next to the Marked List link at the top of the page. The results will be displayed with a new background color to indicate that they have been added to the Marked List.

To remove all the results on the page from the Marked List, uncheck the Mark/Clear all Monthly Catalog entries on this page checkbox.

To add an individual Monthly Catalog entry item to the Marked List, check the Add to Marked List checkbox below the item. The background colour of the result will change to indicate that the citation is now in the Marked List.

To remove an individual Monthly Catalog entry item from your Marked List, uncheck the Add to Marked List checkbox below the item.

Items added to the Marked List will be kept there for the duration of your session. The number of items contained in the Marked List is shown next to the Marked List link at the top of the page.

For more information, go to the Marked List Help Page.

How can I filter my results?

Monthly Catalog allows you to filter your results set by Date and Corporate agency/author, in order to obtain the results most relevant to your research. You can use the links in the Filter Results By panel to apply these filters:

Where there is more than one page of results, Monthly Catalog provides a link to each page. Click a number to display the results listed on that page. Click the Previous or Next link to view the previous or next page of results in the sequence.
